A hospital radio station will broadcast on the internet allowing friends and relatives of patients to listen to songs together online.

Radio Marsden will launch its internet show on September 25 when it will extend access to friends and relatives who are not able to visit the hospital personally.

Jason Reynolds, Chairman of Radio Marsden, said: “This is an important step change for Radio Marsden, as we use the internet to connect our listeners with their friends and families.”

A spokesman said the decision to extend access follows a successful one month license to broadcast on FM radio last November, which celebrated 40 years of Radio Marsden.

He said: “Feedback was universally positive, from patients, friends and relatives.

“Companies were encouraged to sponsor programmes, enabling Radio Marsden to receive additional funds, to continue to develop the service.”

Radio Marsden is the Hospital Radio Station serving the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospitals in London and Surrey, UK, 24 hours a day.

The station is patient-led and all of the presenters and off-air volunteers visit all of the wards on a regular basis.
