Police dawn raid nets Sutton man for domestic violence assault

Police arrested a man for assault this morning in a dawn raid on his home.

Officers from the Met’s Territorial Support Group (TSG) assisted Sutton’s Wanted Offenders Unit to serve the search warrant on the 28-year-old man.

The officers forced entry to the man’s flat in Carshalton Road, Sutton, and arrested him for failing to appear at Sutton Magistrates Court for a domestic violence offence.

The man is expected to be returned to court today.

His mother, aged in her 50s, was also arrested at the flat for knowingly assisting the man and frustrating the police.

She has been cautioned by police.

Detective Inspector Sarah Rees, who heads the Wanted Offenders Unit at Sutton, explained that the man and his mother were given the opportunity for the man to give himself up to Police.

She said: “He didn’t take up that opportunity so we went to his address and brought him in."

The operation is part of a new initiative to bring offenders to justice within shorter timescales.

Part of this work is tracing individuals who are ‘wanted on warrant’ - these are people who Police have been unable to locate during an investigation or have failed to keep a court appearance.
