A man has died after the car he was travelling in was hit by another vehicle being pursued by the police.

The 25-year-old, named locally as Steven Moore, died on Monday after the Renault Clio he was sitting in was hit by a black Vauxhall Vectra on Wrythe Lane, Sutton near the junction with Wrythe Green Lane at 12.45am on Sunday.

Policers officers driving a marked police van were following the Vectra at the time.

Today friends and family of the man gathered at the site of the crash to lay tributes.

The two other passengers of the Clio - a female driver and another male passenger, aged in their twenties, were all taken to a South London hospital and suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Vectra, a 29-year-old man was arrested nearby and is still in custody at a south London police station.

Police originally began following the car on Carshalton Road West, near Sutton Police Station, after being drawn to its manner of driving.

Officers from Hampton Traffic Garage have attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service and Directorate of Professional Standard are investigating the circumstances of any police involvement regarding the collision.
