Robert Hughes’ mother Margaret vigilantly began compiling evidence from the first day she arrived in Crete.

The Tesco employee has taken photographs detailing the injuries of her son who was kicked, stamped on and hit with a bottle outside a nightclub while on holiday on June 17.

Mrs Hughes has also instructed the witnesses to identify Robert’s alleged attackers and make statements to the Greek police.

She said: “The Greek police have not been in once to see Robert.

“His injuries show that he was held down as the only bruising on his body is on his arms and he did not fight back because there isn’t a scratch on his knuckles.

“I’ve documented every step as we don’t want it to be lost but the Greek police have not taken any photographs.’’ Mrs Hughes said the suspects were identified when the witnesses solicited the help of a female tourist.

“The girl apparently got them talking and asked to swap details on Facebook and so we have all names and where they are from.

“My own so-called interview with the police was terrible. There was an interruption every two minutes and I did not have an interpreter.’’
