Detectives have released new images of men they want to speak to in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in Bethnal Green.

Luther Edwards, 31, was murdered last year on Friday, July 29, near Bethnal Green Underground Station.

The CCTV stills show two people from York Hall, a health centre reknowned for boxing on Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green, on the evening of Luther’s death.

Detectives believe the men, thought to be from south London, could be "significant witnesses" and might be able to offer vital information.

Both are described as black men, aged in their mid-20s and were wearing dark coloured trousers and tops.

One of the men is wearing a hat with a white design on the front.

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "We have spoken to a number of witnesses since the murder and the information that has been provided has greatly assisted our investigation but it is of paramount importance that anyone who has yet to come forward and speak to us does so immediately.

"We believe these two individuals may have important information that could help assist us with our enquiries.

"Luther was at this event to watch a friend box and there were a number of other boxers who brought those they know to the venue, so I am convinced that someone will know the people we are seeking to identify.

"It's now been ten months since Luther's murder and his family have been left devastated by his loss, which has been compounded by the fact that the person or persons responsible have yet to be caught.

"I believe that the answers lie in the local community and someone knows the person or persons responsible for denying Luther's two children from ever seeing their father again.

"I want to specifically appeal to those who hold information, I understand that you may have concerns about speaking to the police but shielding and protecting those responsible is not the answer, please do the right thing."

On July 29, at around 10.40pm, Luther was found collapsed on the forecourt of a petrol station at the junction of Old Ford Road and Cambridge Heath Road in Tower Hamlets. He was taken by ambulance to an east London hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 11:40pm.

A post-mortem examination held at Poplar Mortuary on Monday, August 1, 2016, gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

Luther had been at a boxing event held at York Hall on Old Ford Road. He had become involved in an altercation inside the venue and was then attacked by numerous people as he left the venue.

He was then chased across Cambridge Heath Road and into the petrol station.

Detectives are "keeping an open mind" with regard to motive and are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call the incident room on 020 8345 3715 or call police on 101. To give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.
