The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity was awarded a grant worth £1.5m to boost cancer care for children.

Phillip Hammond gave the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity £1,587,546 from the LIBOR grant to help fund psychotherapists, physiotherapists and play specialists. The grant has gone towards military and emergency services, but this year the decision to also award it to charities that directly support children was taken.

The money will also be used to buy new equipment and fund a rehabilitation and holistic pain management program, which they hope will eventually be rolled out nationally.

Director of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Antonia Dalmahoy, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this grant.

“It is so important that not only do young patients receive the very best treatment and care, but that their psychological needs are also met at what is a very challenging time in their and their families’ lives. This grant will help us ensure that this is a reality for our patients.”
