A former Sutton councillor has pleaded guilty to abusing his position at a charity to commit fraud.
Alan Salter, 66, of Butter Hill, Wallington, fraudulently exploited his role as a trustee at Carshalton Association for the Elderly between July 21, 2015, and May 7 this year.
He pleaded guilty to one count of fraud by abuse of position today at Croydon Magistrates' Court and will be sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on a date yet to be specified.
The Liberal Democrat stepped down as a councillor for Carshalton Central in June after police began to investigate allegations against him and was later arrested at his home.
Salter's resignation triggered a by-election in Carshalton Central, which was won by Lib Dem candidate Chris Williams.
