An “utterly unspeakable” sex attacker who forced his way into a pensioner’s home and raped her has been jailed for 12 years.

Jason Batchelor, of Wallington, barged into his victim’s Purley house as she made her breakfast and punched her in the face before launching into a horrific attack.

In a harrowing police statement played at his sentencing hearing at the Old Bailey today, the victim, aged in her 70s, described the horrific moment she said had left her psychologically scarred for life.

The pensioner said she feared for her life and in utter desperation lied about having a heart condition in hope twisted Batchelor would stop.

She said: “My one chance of survival was to try and hold myself together. There was nothing I could have done.

“I said, ‘Please don’t do this to me, I am an old lady, you don’t want me.’

“He said, ‘If you tell anyone I will come back and I will f***ing murder you.

“[Now] I am scared even going to the shops, or if I am in my garden. I am reminded about what happened every day.”

“I hope this man is locked up for a long time because I would hate him to be able to do this to anyone else.”

The woman suffered extensive bruising in the attack in Russell Hill Road on May 11.

Batchelor, of Maldon Road, admitted rape, sexual assault, causing actual bodily harm and trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence at Croydon Crown Court last month.

Sentencing the rapist at the Old Bailey today, Judge Warwick McKinnon told him: “The offences are not just immoral but utterly unspeakable. The psychological damage you have caused her in her older years… demonstrates just what a lawless individual you are.

“I have absolutely no doubt that you do present a significant risk of serious harm to the public.”
