Police have issued some helpful advice about flying your drone.

Pilots have been warned to take responsibility and consider the privacy of others while flying their drone.

A drone is an aircraft that can be remotely controlled or can fly autonomously through software-controlled flight plans, which essentially means it is a flying robot.

Here are some handy tips to make sure you are safe and legal while flying a drone.

  • You are responsible for each flight
  • Keep your drone in sight and keep it below 400 feet
  • Keep your distance from others - you should never fly within 50 metres of another person, vehicle or building.
  • You are responsible for avoiding collisions, so don't fly near an airport
  • Learn to fly you drone - always helpful advice before you launch a drone
  • Consider the rights of privacy of other people and think about what you do with any images you obtain
