Two sisters are fighting to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to fly their mum to Germany for treatment for a rare form of lung cancer.

Jan Jones, 57, of Buxton Crescent, Cheam, said her life was “turned upside down” when she was diagnosed six weeks ago with an aggressive form of the disease that has spread through her body.

Her daughters have raised more than £5,000 in six days in the hope of getting their mum treatment abroad.

Ms Jones, a receptionist at Stonecot Surgery, was told that she would be limited to four to six sessions of chemotherapy on the NHS because her small cell cancer is so aggressive.

But her daughters Nicole, 24, and Stacey, 22, have refused to accept that nothing can be done to save their mum.

Wih the help of other family members, they now aim to raise €300,000 (£260,000) for treatment Germany.

The therapy, known as immunotherapy, is unlicensed in the UK.

Ms Jones said she felt like she had been thrown a "lifeline" after learning about the treatment.

She said: “It’s a nightmare. About six weeks ago I had a normal life and I wasn’t ill at all, and now my life has been turned upside down.

“There are so many people that care and are doing fundraising. That and the treatment in Germany has thrown me a lifeline.

“My daughters and everyone did the research. I haven’t been well enough to be doing that myself.”

Stacey said: “Our mum has dedicated her life to caring for us and others, and now it’s time we return the favour.

"The doctors have advised us that they are able to offer some chemotherapy, however the type of cancer that she has is incurable in the UK.

“We have done some research into some alternative treatments and have found a clinic in Germany that has given us hope and maybe able to help mum.

“We are absolutely desperate to get mum to Germany as a matter of urgency. However this treatment will cost €300,000 which unfortunately we do not have.”

Nicole and Stacey said they were “overwhelmed” when their fundraising page clocked up £4,190 in just two days.

The Gofundme page has since topped £5,000 and and the family are now looking to organise fundraising events to top up the tally.

Jan’s sister, Chris West, said: “It's absolutely mind-blowing just how very kind people can be. It's restored my faith in the human race.

“I am so proud of my sister Jan she is so well loved and your kindness goes to prove that.”
