A community group is aiming to take on feelings of loneliness in older men by having them take part in activities with others.

Sutton South Hello launched the scheme 'Men Allowed' in an effort to tackle loneliness in older men by encouraging them to join others and take part in board games and other activities.

Heather Honour, Chair of Sutton South Hello, said: "Men Allowed is absolutely crucial. Sometimes men can find it hard to make friends when they retire and they can pull back from socialising - particularly if there are more women and very few men around.

"What we provide is a range of activities that they can enjoy in a welcoming and friendly environment."

Police Constable Mark Towler, of Sutton South Safer Neighbourhoods Team, who work alongside Sutton South Hello, said: "Police work doesn't just involve catching criminals and deterring crime.

"It's also about keeping people safe and looking after older people who can become lonely, isolated and vulnerable. Sutton South Hello offer lots of fun activities and we are keen to support them in this new initiative."

Men Allowed meet on the last Wednesday of each month at Christ Church Hall between 2pm and 4pm.
