A charity set up in memory of a Sutton High School pupil who died suddenly has raised more than £30,000.

Molly’s Smile Fund was set up after Molly Burdett, 19, from Wimbledon, died just six weeks after being diagnosed with the rare condition hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, which causes the immune system to attack organs inside the body.

More than 30 students and staff helped tip the total past the £30,000 mark by raising £200 at a Fitness Challenge Wednesday, January 20. Molly’s mum Jane started the charity in July last year.

Jane Burdett, the charity’s chair, said: “Molly cherished her time and the friends she made at Sutton High. She also made a great contribution to the school, so it is a heartening tribute that Molly’s Smile Fund has been chosen as the school’s charity.”
