A seven-month-old baby has received a life-saving liver transplant from her cousin.

Tiffany Lothian, from Carshalton, was diagnosed with a rare liver disease Biliary Atresia at 6-weeks-old.

In amongst all the hospital visits, check-ups and family distress her mother Dee Lothian has found the time to fundraise more than £1,000 for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation and is now fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

A fundraising tea party, organised by Ms Lothian, will be held at St Georges Church in Morden on November 28 from 11am to 2pm for the charity.

Ms Lothian, 32, whose world was turned upside down when Tiffany was diagnosed, said she wanted to give something back to the charities that have helped her family through a tough time.

Ronald McDonald House in Camberwell has housed Ms Lothian’s family, which includes three other children aged 11, 10 and two on countless occasions during Tiffany’s treatment.

She said: “It is about giving something back to them because they helped us.

“It is extremely important because without charities like those families can’t stay together, it takes a big strain off of the family.

“There are often long periods of time where families aren’t working so obviously financially they are quite stretched, so for the charity to operate and not charge you anything it is quite remarkable.

“This has been such a hard journey, as you can imagine being away from my other children for long periods of time is just not nice for me or for them so being able to stick together has been so important.”

Biliary Atresia is a condition in which inflammation develops within the bile ducts of the liver around the time of birth.

The inflammation can occur in any of the bile ducts leading to bile duct damage, reducing the flow of bile, which causes scarring of the liver.

Seven weeks later Tiffany underwent her first surgery to bypass the ducts to prevent liver damage.

She has been in and out of Kings College Hospital in Denmark Hill for multiple complications with her liver her whole life.

Last week she received a live liver transplant from her 20-year-old cousin.
