A Carshalton choreographer hopes her latest production can go some way to highlighting the under-representation of women in the arts.

Rachael Kansaze Nanyonjo, 27, is co-founder of Kansaze Dance Theatre company, which brings its show 2:1 to the Cryer Theatre next week.

The show, written by Emma-Dennis Edwards and directed by Ms Nanyonjo and Thomas Wright, and supported by Arts Council England, follows Alex and Alexandra as they try to make it in the arts industry.

Ms Nanyonjo said: “As a young choreographer, the lack of representation of established female choreographers in the British dance scene, especially in the contemporary world, really resonated with me.

“I really wanted to make a piece that looked at gender and representation from this generation’s perspective.”

2:1 is on at the Cryer Theatre from October 6 to 10. For more information and tickets visit suttontheatres.co.uk/events/21 or kansaze.com.
