Brazen fly-tippers have left tonnes of asbestos strewn across two streets, blocking driveways and forcing residents to remain in their homes.
Police were called at 12.42am this morning by concerned residents of The Causeway and River Gardens, Carshalton after a truck was seen dumping a huge trail of builders waste4 on the street.
It is believed the debris was dumped at about 11.45PM yesterday (July 29).
Resident Dawn Bevan, of the Causeway, said Sutton Council workers arrived at 9am to try and deal with the mess, and work continues.
She added this has forced many people to remain at home as their driveways have been fully blocked by the asbestos.
Mrs Bevan said: “This was a case of extreme fly-tipping – it is unbelievable."
She said the perpetrators themselves were heard by neighbours to have jokingly shouted “fly tipping” after they had committed the offence.
The suspect's vehicle is described as a 'battered' Ford Transit flat bed truck with a white front cab and blue rear section.
Ms Bevan was alerted by the “crashing sound” of “tonnes” of debris; which has completely blocked the exit to at least six driveways.
A police spokesman said: “ Officers believe the vehicle's load was emptied as it drove along the roads - leaving a trail around 50 metres long."
