A prolific burglar who kissed his elderly victims goodbye has been jailed for more than six years.

Michael Sammie, 47, disguised himself as a utility company worker and conned his way into homes with his “well spoken” accent and “gentlemanly” manner.

All of Sammie’s victims in Kingston, Surbiton, Worcester Park, Ewell and Chessington were aged over 70 and police said he left them “questioning their ability to live an independent life.”

Merton's borough commander also said that he had tricked elderly people in the borough - which includes Wimbledon and Mitcham.

In 2011 Sammie, of Brimsdown Road, Enfield, received a five-and-a-half year prison sentence for conning elderly victims in South Kensington and Islington with the same ruse.

2011: Burglar who preyed on pensioners jailed

Sammie knocked on his victims' doors and told them he was there to read the meter.

He then pretended to check the meter and told his victims to go and turn on a light in a different room.

While they were gone Sammie seized the victims' bags and stole cash, bank cards, jewellery and wallets.

On some occasions, he even kissed his unwitting victims goodbye as he left with their possesions.

Sammie pleaded guilty to 12 counts of burglary between November and December 2014 at Kingston Crown Court on June 11.

Trainee Detective Constable Ousmon Sadique said: “Sammie deceived his victims with his well spoken accent.

“His deception not only left the victims distressed but also questioning their ability to live an independent life.

“Even though he admitted to committing twelve burglaries, he may have committed a number of other offences which have not come to light.

“We are therefore urging anyone who believes they may have let Sammie into to property to come forward and speak to us.”
