Children in foster care are rehearsing songs from the movies as they aim to win a national singing competition.

The children are part of a choir put together by London and Kent's Foster Care Associates (FCA), based in Mulgrave Road, Sutton and will be taking part in The Big Sing Off at Chateau Impney in Worcestershire on later today.

The choir, called Lo-Ke, have been practicing High School Musical's We’re All In This Together and Toy Story's You’ve Got a Friend in Me every week at the FCA's Sutton office.

Choir co-ordinator and Office Manager for FCA London and Kent, Geraldine Turner, said: "Rehearsals have been going well and are slowly building as we get closer to the big day.

"The most important thing is that it has been a really positive experience for the young people, carers and staff and there has been a great spirit within the choir."

They will be competing against 14 FCA choirs from across the UK in front of a panel of judges including Adam Treadaway, assistant conductor with The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.

The FCA aims to help children find a stable home if their parents are unable to look after them.

Support Worker Sukpal Uppal, 26, said: "It could be a number of reasons. It could be due to neglect or abuse. If a young person has specific needs we try to match them."

He feels the children have benefitted from taking part in the choir and getting a chance to showcase their talents.

Mr Uppal said: "They are excited for the Toy Story number as we are having costumes."
