A man brought down from a roof in a residential street in Sutton last week, will appear in court on an assault charge.
Rahit Asghar, 27, was described as dirty and wearing no shoes or socks, when he was arrested for criminal damage to a chimney stack in Myrtle Road at about 12pm on Wednesday, January 14.
It is unclear why Mr Asghar was on the roof, as neither the Metropolitan Police or Sutton police were able to offer an account of what happened.
Despite being arrested for criminal damage, Mr Asghar will face an assault charge when he appears at Croydon Magistrates' Court on February 5.
A Metropolitan Police helicopter was called in to help arrest him.
Mr Asghar, from Canterbury Road in Morden, will also faces charges for failing to surrender and breach of court bail.
Someone who witnessed the incident but asked not to be named, said: "Many police cars and dog unit arrested a dirty man with no shoes or socks.
"Many concerned neighbours were looking on."
Mr Asghar was remanded on bail until next month’s hearing at Croydon Magistrates' Court.
