Rail users across Carshalton and Wallington have called for cheaper tickets and more seats, in a survey directed at train operator Thameslink Govia.

The questionnaire asked commuters to rate services such as station facilities, train frequency, ticket costs and travel information.

Journey prices were given the lowest grade of 2.2 out of 5, followed by seat availability which was given 2.6 out of 5.

Station facilities were given 3 out of 5, live train information was rated 3.1 out of 5, and the quality of trains was given 3.2 out of 5.

The survey was put together by Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake, and was completed by 648 people across Sutton.

Respondents were also asked to grade their concerns in terms of importance, with 0 being the lowest level and 5 being the highest.

Forty three per cent of respondents gave reducing delays and cancellations 5 out of 5 for importance, and forty one per cent said making travel more affordable was of the highest level of importance.

Train access came out as a minor concern amoung commuters, with 12 per cent of respondents rating it at the highest level.

Out of all the respondents 299 took the train on a daily basis, and 171 were passengers on a weekly basis.

Govia started running Thameslink lines out of Sutton on September 14, under the name Govia Thameslink Railway.
