The Sutton Guardian's Facebook page was singled out for praise after a police appeal led to a number of arrests.

Sutton Police released photographs of three men wanted in connection with offences in the borough after failing to track them down.

The day after the images were posted on our site, September 18, one of the men, George Patching, 22, of Budge Lane, Mitcham, replied saying he would 'hand himself in on Monday'.

Detective Inspector Jim Bennett, of Sutton CID, said: "Police have been making every effort to contact and locate these suspects over several weeks without success.

"But within less than a week of these photos being released to the public via the local media, two of them have handed themselves in, one of them saying via the Sutton Guardian's Facebook page that he wasn't keen on his photo and had decided to come in to the police station.

Your Local Guardian:

"I have no doubt that putting their pictures out there has greatly assisted police in detaining these three individuals."

Mr Patching was charged with five burglaries in July and August in Sutton, Cheam, Worcester Park, Carshalton and Morden.

James Hensby, 30, of Blairderry Road, Streatham Hill, was arrested and charged on Monday with robbery of £60 from a woman in Adastra Way, Wallington on July 13 and criminal damage to a window in Adastra Way, Wallington on July 14.

On Saturday, Frank Dickson, 30, was arrested after police responded to a call about criminal damage in Carshalton.

Mr Dickson, of Barnard Close, Wallington, appeared at Croydon Magistrates Court on Monday for criminal damage charges and is set to be sentenced today.

Dickson also had to answer for failing to appear at Croydon Magistrates Court on June 25 for the theft of a Domino’s pizza and side dishes at Shaw Way, Wallington, on February 11.

Mr Patching is due before Croydon Magistrates Court on October 14. Mr Hensby is due at Croydon Crown Court on October 7.
