A series of explosions rocked a residential road after a stolen car was dumped and left to burn.

The blasts were heard by those living in and around Revell Road and Quarry Park Road at around 1.48am on Wednesday September 17.

A spokesman for Sutton Police said they were called following reports of a car fire at the junction.

He said: "Officers arrived to find a Vauxhall astra alight.

"London Fire Brigade arrived at 1:54am.

"The owner of the astra told police his vehicle had been stolen from his driveway in Lenham Road, Sutton, sometime between 4.30pm on Friday September 12 and 3am on Saturday September 13."

According to Sutton Police the same car had been involved in a 'damage only' crash in St Dunstan’s Hill at around 6pm on September 12.
