Distraught special needs students had their futures put on hold as their school failed to give them their GCSE results.

A week after students across the rest of the country discovered their fate, one small group in Wallington are still suffering the turmoil of not knowing.

Claiming he and his classmates are being ‘put through hell’, one pupil from Carew Academy, Church Road, says the stress and anxiety of waiting to hear his grades has been unbearable.

Waiting in desperate hope for the postman to arrive each day, only to have their hopes dashed again, the students says places at college are now in jeopardy and their future hangs in the balance.

While everyone else got their results on Thursday, August 21, nearly a week later they are cruelly left in the dark.

A student of the school, who wished to remain anonymous, for fear his results may be delayed still further, said: “I am devastated about it, and I know that my friends who go to Carew are also really stressed.

“All we want is our GCSEs. It is scary because we need to get into college but can’t without our results.

“We have tried to reach the school but there has been no answer. We have absolutely no idea what is going on, absolutely no idea.

“I feel insulted. I just want everyone to get their grades and be happy.”

As pupils all over the country trouped into schools last Thursday to discover their grades, Carew Academy refused to consider this as an option.

The 27 students affected should have received their results in the post, but so far not a single envelope has arrived.

The parent of another student, who both wish to remain anonymous, said: "It is inhumane, it is disgraceful.

"These are special needs students, and for some of them, when they are told something will happen they expect it to happen.

"My son has been really jittery all week, thinking the reason he doesn't have his grades is because he has failed.

"We received a letter on the August 18 telling us we would get the results on the 21st. Normally kids are invited into school to collect their grades, but Carew didn't do that, and they haven't explained why."

There is currently renovation work being done at the school

Parents and pupils, frantically trying to get in touch with the school say no-one is answering the phone.

Amy Webb, personal assistant to the school's principal John Prior, said: “They were all sent out in the post on Thursday so they should have got them.

"I have no idea why they wouldn’t have arrived yet.”

Two students have contacted the Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake to voice their concerns.

He said: "I have messaged Sutton's director of education to see what is going on.

"I want these results made available because these students will be chomping at the bit to find out their results."
