Two thieves pretending to be window cleaners stole £1,200 worth of jewellery off a 95-year-old woman.

A man knocked on the door of the lady's house in Strawberry Lane, Carshalton, and told her he had cleaned her windows at 6.45 that morning.

He then asked for £8 as a payment for the job.

The woman said she not asked for her windows to be cleaned and refused to pay.

She then went off into her living room to find her phone after the man encouraged her to call his boss.

When she got back a different man was at the door, who told her his colleague had gone elsewhere.

She refused to pay once again and shut the door.

Later that day she realised the jewellery had been stolen and her rear window was open.

The theft took place on Thursday, August 21 at 10am, and the fake window cleaners have been described as white and in their early twenties.

Sutton police say they have received two other reports of men pretending to be window cleaners.

On August 13 we reported on how a 90-year-old woman was robbed of £150 in a similar incident.
