Police are concerned thieves may be targeting builders and tradesman's vehicles to steal copper piping.

Concerns have been raised after copper piping was stolen from the roof a van in Rectory Road, Sutton overnight August 12, despite it being secured with a couple of locks.

The thefts follows a number of similar incidents that took place in March.

Police advice is for drivers to remove their piping to a secure location and leave the tubes on their vans open so it’s clear they are empty.

Safer Neighbourhoods Inspector Richard Hall said: "If the tube is padlocked then that’s an indication to a thief that there is something inside worth stealing."
