Police in Sutton are hoping two sporting initiatives will help cut anti-social behaviour this summer.

Young people aged 13 and above will be able to get involved in either boxing or football sessions arranged by Sutton police.

Officers hope the schemes, which have been arranged alongside Sutton United FC, will help discourage young people from anti-social behaviour and help them engage with police.

Chief Inspector Neil Tyre said: ""These are two exciting new projects for young people during the summer holidays set up with the support of local police officers.

"We want to be involved with young people a lot more as well as create opportunities for ourselves to find out about the issues and concerns of young people, such as where they don’t feel safe in the borough.

"We can then work with our partner organisations like Sutton Council to provide long term solutions to these issues."

Rob Hardy, community programme manager at Sutton United FC, added: "These projects provide a further opportunity for the club and the police to work together – there is a strong partnership in place and I’m sure that other projects and initiatives will be undertaken to provide services for the local community in Sutton."

The courses are due to start at the beginning of August and will run for six to eight weeks. Boxing will take place at Sutton Sports Village in Rosehill and the football will happen at Sutton Life Centre in Alcorn Close.
