The council is holding out for a hero as it launches its annual community awards.

Nominations are now open for Sutton Council's 2013 Community Awards and people are being encouraged to put forward their local heroes.

It could be someone who goes the extra mile to support the community, a carer, someone who has made an outstanding contribution to business or a person who has raised the profile of the borough.

Councillor Ruth Dombey, the council leader, said: "There are many people in our borough who single-handedly care for family or loved ones, give up their time for free or work tirelessly in the community.

"These awards are our chance to recognise the dedication and commitment of those heroes and to say thank-you at the same time.

"I urge you to get your nominations in as soon as possible."

Winners will receive shopping vouchers with £100. To nominate, visit www.sutton.gov.uk/communityawards.
