TESCO has announced plans to move to Ross-on-Wye - creating around 250 jobs.

The supermarket giant have targeted a site off Overross Street, which also includes a four-pump petrol station and a free 260-space car park.

“We know that many residents currently travel to our stores in Hereford and even Gloucester for their main weekly food shop, so this would allow them to stay and shop locally in the town,” said Jonathan Simpson, Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager.

“The store will create around 250 jobs that would be prioritised for local people where possible.

“Careers at Tesco are always extremely popular as we are proud to offer industry-leading rates of pay, great training and personal development opportunities.”

The plan is to build the 40,000 square-foot supermarket on eight acres of brownfield land that will take in the Broadmeadows Industrial Estate and land owned by Herefordshire Council.

Customer access will be provided by linking Overross Street with Station Approach in the Ashburton Industrial Estate, with new pedestrian and cycle routes being created.

Tesco have said that they will consult the local community over the coming months, which will include a public exhibition where the plans will be displayed.

A full planning application is expected to made to Herefordshire Council in the summer.
