An author became an award-winner after beating world-wide contestants in a career blogging contest.

Mildred Talabi, Babington Road, Streatham, a careers writer, speaker, blogger, and Guardian Careers website contributor, took silver in the competition, winning $1300 (£800) worth of prizes.

An Israeli-based job site JobMob saw 25 hopefuls submit original career-related articles with the aim of attracting the most online traffic within a set week.

The 29-year-old's submission - 'Why You Should Reject LinkedIn Connection Requests' - received almost 2,000 visitors.

She said: "I was really excited to find out I had second place - especially as I only found out about the competition by accident and entered at the last minute."

She explained she was worried about the high unemployment rate in Lambeth, particularly with young people.

"My hope is that through my blog, I can help make a difference here - even if it's just in a small way."

Ms Talabi is author of '7 Keys to a Winning CV: How to create a CV that gets results'.
