Singing teacher Jaz Ellington is now neck-and-neck with former Saint Cecilia pupil Ruth Brown to win BBC's The Voice.

Bookies have made the pair joint favourites at 5/2 to win the singing competition, following show-stopping performances on Saturday night.

Mr Ellington, 27, who taught at Burntwood School in Earlsfield, wowed the judges for a third time after singing Etta James' At Last.

The panel were in awe of his performance, with legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones admitting he wanted him on his team.

Soul singer Miss Brown dazzled the audience after singing Oleta Adams' hit Get Here.

After her performance, coach Jessie J said: "I was crying. I remember when I was 15 and I sang that song on TV. I'm so proud. Your voice is so natural. You did your father proud."

Contestants Sam Buttery and Sophie Griffin were the first singers to leave the competition yesterday.

Both coaches now have four acts left in their teams.

Matt & Sueleen, Adam Isaac, Leanne Mitchell and Ruth Brown remain in Team Tom, while Joelle Moses, Frances Wood, Jaz Ellington and Tyler James are in Team Will.

Next Saturday, Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue will see their teams perform live for public votes for the first time.
