A mum dedicated to promoting peace in her community has been awarded £5,000 toward a week-long event in the borough later this year.

Anna Nolan, 38, from Streatham was recognised as a “Champion Mum” after entering a nationwide competition run by Proctor and Gamble and Marie Claire Magazine to find mums working to help their community.

A mum of twin girls, Ms Nolan has been working as a volunteer with the Little Big Peace Event (LBPE) which was founded last year in Streatham to promote peace in the community.

She said: “I am so excited and honoured to win this award but more importantly I am delighted that the bursary will help the work we do at Little Big Peace. We are a small group of enthusiastic volunteers who care about the well-being of Streatham. The Streatham Little Big Peace Event is our local support of the annual Peace One Day organisation’s call for a day of non-violence worldwide. Although this was the first year for LBPE, we had such a fantastic response from everyone who attended the three day event we knew we had to do it again next year and make it bigger and better than before. Winning the bursary will go a long way in making this happen”. As part of the prize, she will appear in the April issue of Marie Claire Magazine.

Founder of the LBPE Mel Larsen added: "Anna really is a Champion is so many ways and we are lucky to have her in our community. Everyone in the Little Big Peace Event team is incredibly proud of her."

The Little Big Peace Event will be held in Streatham from September 17 to 23, coinciding with International Peace Day on September 21.
