A community-minded resident has won the prestigious Fulham Football Club Foundation community champions volunteer of the year award.

Adrian Nosworthy-Browne, from Salters Hill, Gipsy Hill, was presented with the award by BBC commentator John Inverdale at a ceremony hosted held at Fulham’s training grounds in Motspur Park on August 11.

The event recognised the work volunteers carried out in their communities, and celebrated their efforts and achievements.

The 20-year-old was delighted with the award.

He said: “The award means a lot to me coming from such a prestigious club.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with the foundation and all of the other volunteers.

“The benefits of volunteering are immense – the skills you learn, the positive relationships you build and gaining an understanding of the workings of an organisation is important in giving you the confidence to go out and find work.”

Fulham FC Foundation works with 200 volunteers, offering placements in London and Surrey aimed at building better lives through sport.

Volunteers are given the opportunity to engage in a number of posts, including football coaching, social inclusion assignments and office-based work.

Mr Nosworthy-Browne praised the programme.

He said: “It’s like a work environment, in that you gain experience and benefit from the building of relationships.

“Everything you need to progress in life, you gain from volunteering.”
