1:10pm Friday 2nd July 2010 in Streatham By Matt Watts
The future of a temporary ice rink that could controversially be put on Streatham Common will be discussed at a public meeting.
Chuka Umunna, MP for Streatham, has invited Lambeth Council and Tesco to the meeting at Dunraven School on Thursday, July 22, at 7pm.
Mr Umunna said: “I am holding this public meeting to ensure residents’ views are heard. It is crucial people are fully consulted on plans.”
Three sites for the temporary rink are on the council and supermarket giant’s shortlist to provide “continuity of ice” for the area, while the Streatham Hub development is built.
Streatham Common, the site of the former MI5 building in Streatham High Road, and the Pope’s Road car park, are being considered, with officers’ recommendations for the preferred site expected to go in front of Lambeth’s cabinet on July 26.
