Undercover cops have fined dog walkers who failed to clean up their pets’ mess in Streatham parks.
Two people were given £50 fixed penalty notices by police during a two day operation with Lambeth Council’s environmental crime team.
They were spotted letting their dogs foul in Streatham Common and Streatham Vale Park, and failing to clean up the mess.
Roads in Streatham, that have drawn a number of complaints from residents for the state of the pavements, were also targeted.
Some 17 dog walkers were stopped, according to police.
Sergeant Brindley of Streatham South safer neighbourhood team said: "Many members of the public have aired their frustrations at public meetings about dog fouling by irresponsible dog owners.
“Not only is it a nuisance to get the mess off clothing but there are obvious health risks. At worst, it can lead to blindness, usually in children, due to an infection caused by toxocara canis - a type of parasite naked to the human eye and common in dog faeces.”
