New measures to combat antisocial behaviour in Lambeth

New measures to help crack down on antisocial behaviour in Lambeth have been announced.

Many frontline council and police staff in the borough - including housing officers on estates - are set to get greater training on how to make full use of powers and tools already available to cut down on the problem, via the new Government strategy.

Lambeth Living and other housing associations in the borough will also have a new duty to take measures to stop antisocial behaviour, by being forced to sign up to a new agreement, the Respect Standard.

Residents will also be given more information on how to report antisocial behaviour and knowing what their rights are against nuisance neighbours.

A new housing antisocial behaviour squad is being set up nationally to deal with crime in areas of social housing, providing help on the ground to deal with problems faced by housing associations.

Labour Parliamentary candidate Chuka Umunna said: "Evidence shows that intervention against antisocial behaviour works, and the new measures and funding will help tackle the problem in our area.

"People need to know that they are not alone – the Government, council and police are on their side in dealing with problem neighbours, violence and vandalism."
