South Londoners have lead the way in the recently-announced MOBO Award nominations.

Krept and Konan were shortlisted for four awards while Stormzy and Lianne La Havas are both up for three.

Duo Krept and Konan – Casyo ‘Krept’ Johnson, 25, from Gipsy Hill, and Karl ‘Konan’ Wilson, 26, from Thornton Heath – are nominated for all of the big awards for which they are eligible: Best Male Act, Best Song, Best Album and Best Hip Hop Act.

Following a string of mixtape releases, Krept and Konan released their debut album Long Way Home earlier this year.

It charted at number two while its lead single Freak of the Week reached number nine on the singles chart.

Fellow south Londoner Stormzy, who also hails from Thornton Heath, is nominated in the Best Grime Act and Best Video (for Know Me From) categories and go up against Krept and Konan for the Best Male Act award.

Also fighting it out for that award is JME, who studied at University of Greenwich.

 

 

La Havas, who grew up in Streatham and attended Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College for Girls, was nominated for her album Blood as well as in the Best Female and Best R&B/Soul Act categories.

Plumstead rapper Tinie Tempah also got a MOBO nomination. His single Not Letting Go with Jess Glynne recognised in the Best Song category.

South London collective Section Boyz and Herne Hill’s Yungen are both in the running for the Best Newcomer prize.

 

 

La Havas will compete against BRIT school graduate Ella Eyre for Best Female Act and Bermondsey’s Kwabs is nominated for Best R&B/Soul Act.

South London is represented by Mitcham’s FUSE ODG, Croydon’s Silvastone and Brockley’s Mista Silva in the Best African Act and Stylo G in the Best Reggae Act category .

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Leeds on November 4.
