An interactive map showing the locations and severity of road crashes across the capital since 2005 has been launched by Transport for London (TfL).

The London Collision Map at www.collisionmap.london displays details of all incidents in the 10 years to 2014 that resulted in injury to someone and were reported to police.

As well as showing where collisions have happened, the map also includes information on whether injuries were fatal, serious or slight, what vehicles were involved and whether adults or children were victims.

Users can simply click around the map to pull up data, they can zoom in and out or they can search for specific locations.

TfL has released the map as part of its push to further improve road safety awareness and to “shine a light” on road collisions in local areas.

It wants the map to inform road users about junctions that are collision blackspots and also to be an aid in deciding where future improvement work or enforcement is needed.

Leon Daniels, managing director of surface transport at TfL, said: “This mapping tool will enable us to work with our partners and local communities to make significant improvements in road safety.

“Alongside major modernisation work at junctions, effective enforcement by the police and action to make lorries safer, this is one of many measures we are taking to further reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.”
