A kitten had to be put down after suffering a horrific slice wound to its stomach.

Wandsworth Times:

The 10-month-old tabby cat lived not far from Tooting, in Greyhound Lane, Streatham, and was let out by its owners at 7am on Saturday, November 1.

It is understood the young cat returned an hour later bleeding heavily from a wound across its stomach. A report on website Streetlife.com said the injury appeared to have been caused with a sharp implement rather than another animal attack or an accidental scrape.

The cat was rushed to the vets but had to be put down because of the nature of its injuries.

It is understood the police have been informed and we have gone to them for comment.

The RSPCA met with the owners and spoke with the vet who treated the cat.

A spokeswoman said: "At the moment it is difficult to be sure whether these injuries were the result of an accident, such as barbed wire, or an intentional attack. Whichever, it was a very upsetting way for the cat to have died and our thoughts are with the owners at this time."

“We are looking into the incident and urge anyone with any information about this incident, or indeed any animal welfare offence, to contact us on 0300 123 8018.”
