Recent sunshine is set to make way for clouds and showery spells this weekend.

South London and Surrey are waking up to a cloudy, grey morning, with sunny spells a possibility in the afternoon, according to Met Office forecasters.

"Some bright spells are likely to develop across inland areas during the afternoon, although with rather more of a breeze than recently," the forecaster said.

Temperatures could rise to around 11C, he added.

As the evening draws in, however, showers come with it, dragging temperatures down to around 7C.

"Any brightness at first replaced by increasing cloud, then cloudy overnight with outbreaks of rain spreading to most places by dawn," the forecaster warned.

Showers look set to continue on Saturday too, with cloud dominating.

The forecaster added: "Cloudy with showers or longer outbreaks of rain, especially during the morning and early afternoon, then the rain tending to clear from all but the far southeast by evening."

Temperatures look set to struggle to reach 12C.
