South London and Surrey braced for 70mph winds and heavy rain

South London and Surrey are braced for one of the stormiest weeks for years as winds up to 70mph batter the UK.

Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for the south east, with the worst conditions set for the end of the week.

An Atlantic storm passing over the UK later today will bring wet and windy weather to the whole country.

Wednesday looks bright and breezy for most places, but early indications are that there is a potential for another storm system to affect parts of England and Wales later on Thursday and into Friday.

Tim Hewson, chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: "There is some uncertainty in the forecast for later in the week, but there is potential for a significant storm and we are keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops.

"We'll be regularly updating our forecasts and warnings, so we advise everyone to stay up to date with the latest situation."

Ah we're being 'braced' again and another chance to see that photo of the lady with the umbrella but at least a change from the others in the set: The two parked fire engines, the scales of justice statue, the do not cross police line cordon tape and what other regulars have I missed?

Why does Paul Jones need a big byline and photo for regurgitating a Met Office press release? Is he capable of writing anything himself?
