Two teachers who have been at a school for a total of 60 years said their final goodbyes when pupils threw them a party to mark their retirement.

Neil Bridger, deputy headteacher of Stanley Primary School, in Teddington, and Wendy Dalton, who taught year 6 pupils, told the gathering: “And it’s goodbye from me and it’s goodbye from him,” in their farewell speeches.

Mr Bridger, who was deputy headteacher for an impressive 23 years, was involved in many aspects of school life, including a sponsored run, trips and sports days.

Ms Dalton, who started her career there 37 years ago, has been the junior department’s literacy co-ordinator, sharing her love of books and drama with the children.

Ian Dickinson, co-headteacher of Stanley Primary School, said staff, parents and pupils would miss them both and wished them a happy retirement.
