People living or working in nearly 300 roads in the borough affected by the Olympics will be able to find out the direct impact on them at the click of a button.

Homeowners and motorists have been urged to use a new Richmond Council website with an interactive map to help them avoid the disruption.

They will be able to enter the postcode of where they live or work and get an accurate snapshot of road closures and parking restrictions.

Transport for London (TfL) said drivers should start planning now for any journeys they need to make during London 2012 and also launched its own online tool to help them prepare.

Residents and businesses in Richmond, Twickenham, Hampton, Hampton Wick, Teddington, Ham and Petersham will all be affected by the six Olympic events in the borough, which include the cycling road races on July 28 and 29.

TfL urged motorists to avoid driving around the Olympic route network, central London or Olympic venues from the middle of July.

Leon Daniels, managing director of surface transport at TfL, said: “We want to make sure that road users are not caught out and plan ahead for the significant changes that the Games will bring to London’s road network.

“The details we’ve now added to the temporary road changes planning tool include local parking and how traffic will be managed around venues and on road event competition days.

“This means road users can now fully plan their journeys by simply putting in a postcode and seeing exactly where and when surrounding areas will be affected.”

Councillor Geoffrey Samuel, chairman of Richmond Council’s strategic Olympics programme board, said: “We are aware that the borough will be inconvenienced by the Olympic events and we want residents to be able to prepare in time. “The new web pages will provide a personalised snapshot of how the Olympics are going to affect your road and your council services.”

Well sadly, I was moving into Teddington while all the preparations for the Olympic disruption was going on, so whilst I was aware there were going to be road closures, NOBODY told me I was going to be stranded in Teddington for several hours each day. The fact that there is no definitive information on when roads will re-open is, in my opinion, just unacceptable. My wife has to go to a meeting tomorrow, but what time will the roads re-open? Where was the provision of additional parking outside teh exclusion zone for residents. It's put me right off the whole Olympic circus.
