Due to a high demand for street parties in borough, Richmond Council is extending the deadline to accommodate last minute applications for the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

The race is on between Richmond and Wandsworth, as our neighbouring borough announced today that it had 227 street parties confirmed – making the need for people to apply for a party all the more important.

Councillor Pamela Fleming, the council’s strategic cabinet member for communities, business and culture, said: “We have had over 220 street party applications in the borough so far, more than double the amount for the royal wedding and we are fast becoming the borough with the most parties celebrating the Queen’s jubilee in London.

"This just goes to show the incredible community spirit we have in Richmond.

“We decided to extend the deadline as there has been such a positive response from residents towards the celebrations, and also to ensure no one is left out. I would like to encourage anyone who is still keen to get involved in the festivities, by holding a street party, to contact the council or go online before May 25, the process couldn’t be easier.”
