National Grid saves Twickenham Pancake Race

Pancake-lovers can breathe a sigh of relief as news that Twickenham Pancake Race will still go ahead, thanks to a change in schedule from the National Grid.

The company, the UK’s largest utility, has agreed to delay the start of its work on Church Street to allow the traditional Shrove Tuesday race to take place.

Herbie Thomas, Project Engineer said: “We didn’t want to stand in the way of people having a flipping good time with their pancakes so we’ve postponed the start of our work.”

Work on replacing a nine metre section of pipe in Church Street was scheduled to start on Friday, February 18, but has now been delayed until Wednesday, February 22.

The road is expected to remain closed until Sunday, February 26, and traffic will be diverted via Church Lane, Riverside, Sion Road and Richmond Road.

I propose a competition to find the fastest flipper in the council.
The question is, what prize is appropriate for the winning twickenham tosser?

At least they listened to what people said.
More than can be said for Network Rail and Solum on the Rail Station fiasco.

I have enough trouble making pancakes let alone tossing them about and trying to run at the same time. I might just enter for a laugh it could be quite a spectacle !
