Cinema screenings in Richmond Park have been cancelled amid poor advanced ticket sales and strong opposition.

The Friends of Richmond Park stepped in after hearing of the Nomad-planned three night mini-season, starting on August 31, at Roehampton gate.

Steven Spielberg’s best-loved movie ET was due to top the bill.

However, the friends group and Richmond Park Wildlife Group opposed the idea and sent letters and emails to the organiser.

The Nomad, a roaming pop-up cinema company, told the objectors it had cancelled the event due to a lack of advanced bookings, but added it was sensitive to the views of people living near its venues and the environment.

Viewers were due to watch Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark on August 31, along with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn in John Huston’s African Queen, on September 2.

Twenty Nomad events were planned in London’s Royal Parks this year.
