Frefighters tackle gas cylinder fire in Richmond Road, Twickenham

Firefighters tackled a gas cylinder blaze in Twickenham.

Crews from Twickenham and Kingston were called to a three-storey building in Richmond Road just before 3pm.

They found a gas cylinder alight and evacuated neighbouring flats and businesses.

The road was sealed off while firefighters tackled the small blaze, which caused minor damage.

It remained closed while crews waited for the propane gas cylinder to cool down.

Richmond Road re-opened at 4.20pm.

Your article comments that "crews evacuated neighbouring homes and businesses" - however, I was sitting in the 3-storey building, right above the cylinder, and no-one bothered to even knock on the door to let me know. Only when I went down to investigate why water was being pumped into my building, over 30 minutes after the evacuation supposedly took place, was I then prevented from returning to my flat. To close a road, yet not bother to evacuate the residents from the building that the cylinder was in, surely indicates ineptitutude on a grand scale!!
