Toxic air alerts have once again been issued across south London, with pollution levels in Richmond, Wimbledon and Greenwich reaching dangerous levels.

'Very high' readings were recorded at a number of air pollution monitoring sites across London this morning, including Bushy Park, Merton Road and Eltham.

Levels of toxic air are predicted to be so high that one school in central London has reportedly restricted the amount of time children can go outdoors.

Last week, a 'red alert' was issued in eight London boroughs, including Kingston and Wandsworth, after cloud of toxic air arrived from Germany’s industrial region.

Air quality warnings were reportedly sent to about 2,500 bus countdown signs across London after City Hall put out an official warning to residents.

'Black alerts' have been issued in Camden and Westminster – the highest warning that can be given.

London breached its legal limits for toxic air for the entire year in the first five days of 2017, with Putney High Street, in Wandsworth, one of the first places to breach the limit.
