After a number of impressive performances in the recent London Youth Games cross country competition, Team Richmond head into the new year in fifth place out of all 32 London boroughs.

Team Richmond will be hoping that they can protect this position when the next event, the boys’ cricket, takes place at Harrow Leisure Centre in January.

Team Richmond fielded a squad of 50 runners who travelled to Hampstead Heath last month to compete in the cross country competition.

More than 1,000 participants were brought together from across London, with the Richmond contingent being represented by runners from 27 different schools in the under-11, under-13, under-15 and under-17 categories.

Their combined performances placed Team Richmond girls' in fourth place and the boys' team in seventh place.

Richmond Council's cabinet member for sport, Councillor Meena Bond, said: "Team Richmond has enjoyed a huge degree of success at this year's London Youth Games and they go into the new year ready to capitalise on their successful momentum from the games so far.

"We always enjoy success at the games and judging by these performances this tradition is set to continue."
