The court wrangling over the Teddington and Ham hydro development rumbles on.

Teddington’s Lensbury Club is appealing the High Court’s dismissal of its fight against the decision to grant planning permission to Teddington and Ham Hydro.

The scheme involves demolishing part of Teddington Lock weir and building three turbines in order to generate power.

A judicial review into the council’s granting of planning permission, brought by the club, a sports resort hotel, was dismissed earlier this month.

Teddington Councillor Stephen Knight said the fact that Shell Oil, which owns the club, is trying to block a renewable energy scheme, could damage its reputation.

Cllr Knight said: “To make matters worse, this legal battle with Richmond Council is costing taxpayers money.

"This is because Shell is using rules design to help communities challenge governments over environmental matters to limit its obligation to pay the council’s legal costs in this battle. This is shameful.”
