The death of a man who fell from a plane destined for Heathrow was accidental, a coroner has concluded.

The decapitated body of Carlito Vale was found on top of the offices of NotOntheHighStreet.com in Kew Road by the company's facilities manager, Michael Bentley, on June 18 last year.

Mr Bentley made the gruesome discovery when he was investigating complaints from staff that the offices were too hot.

Going to the roof to look at the heating and cooling units, he saw matter on the ground and looking into one unit, he saw a foot and a leg.

In a statement read at West London coroner's court, he said: "I saw matter on the floor and I moved closer and saw what could only be described as a bone.

"I saw extensive damage to the aluminium housing unit.

"I thought 'that is not a body in there, it could only have come from a plane'."

Mr Bentley then emailed his line manager Jason Weston who investigated before Mr Bentley called the police.

The inquest heard that several police officers attended including PC Butler who assessed that the body must have fallen from a plane.

The impact was so great that Mr Vale had crashed through the metal housing on the unit and been decapitated.

In the following days, it was discovered that Mr Vale was one of two stowaways on a flight from Johannesburg and the second man was in hospital.

He confirmed that Mr Vale was the man he had travelled with after his Mozambique passport and some belongings were found back at the South African airport.

Mr Vale's daughter was traced and confirmed with a DNA test. A post mortem examination recorded cause of death as multiple injuries.
