Teddington could be set to miss out on increased rail services after plans to construct turnaround sidings at Hampton Wick were announced by Crossrail 2.

Residents have been told that Crossrail 2 "does not envisage" running eight trains per hour further than Kingston, due to lack of demand.

The new sidings could be constructed between the tracks near Harrowdene Gardens and Fairfax Road in Teddington.

Angela King, Crossrail 2's senior public consultation manager, said in a letter to residents that it would be "very difficult and expensive" to reconfigure Kingston station to turn trains around.

Brian Holder, of the Teddington Society, said: "The Teddington Society objects to the selection of the proposed turn round point between Hampton Wick and Teddington."

He said the extra services would have created at least four more London-bound services each hour.

Teddington Councillor Stephen Knight, who lives in Harrowdene Gardens, said another option could be using Strawberry Hill depot to turn trains around.

He said: "This would help people living in Strawberry Hill with improved services and would seem more appropriate."

A drop-in event was held in Hampton Hill on Thursday, with residents invited to view and feedback on plans.
